Most often after Microsoft update rolls out, outlook users notice this error pop up on their screen which says Outlook requires update before it can start click learn more for update instructions. This error can occur due to variety of reasons, one of the most common reason is with the Microsoft office 365 updates.
Microsoft office has been in the market for a long time with different version such as 2019 and 2021. However, MS office updates are less frequent as compared to Microsoft 365 which is usually automatically updated with time. When the version of Microsoft office doesn’t match the latest update from Microsoft 365, it prevents Outlook to connect with Microsoft office 365 server resulting in the error Outlook requires update before it can start click learn more for update instructions.
There are multiple fixes for this error. However, there are two easy methods to run your Outlook smoothly again. (Before you check the methods make sure you are aware about the Outlook version that you are looking to fix. It could be 32 bit or 64 bit, depending on these the update files will be determined.)
Method 1:
1. Open Outlook. (When the error pops up just click on OK Button to Close the dialogue box).
2. Click on the File option. (It is Top left on the menu bar).
3. Now in file. Go down and click on Office Account.
4. On the right side click on Update Options & Click Update Now. It should be located below the product information.
5. It should start Check for Office Updates Microsoft Office Updates.
6. Once the update is complete, you will see message like this just click on Continue Button.
7. Than You Will See Updates Were install pop up Just click on Close Button.
8. Done! Open Outlook
Method 2:
For this method you will have to manually download the update files from the official Microsoft website.
The links for the updates are as below. You can select the download file as per the Outlook Version (32 bit or 64 bit).
- First Click on File Explorer than Right-click on This PC and than Click Properties. Now Note Down the System type. (Mine is 64-bit)
- Click on the link Below According To Your Outlook Version & System type noted in Previous Step. (My outlook version is 2016 & my system type is 64-bit so I will Open Outlook 2016 64-bit link)

- Click on Download Button.
- Once Update is Downloaded Click on It To Install it.
- Now Tick “Click here to accept the Microsoft Software License Terms” & Click Continue Button.
- Wait For Installation Process To Finish.
- Now Click Yes Button This Will Restart Your Computer.
- Done! Now Open Outlook.
